Looking Forward to 2009

Balance, grace, and motion are the keys that unlock Smith Mountain Lake resident and artist George Beckman's kinetic sculptures. His passion is to manipulate shining stainless steel into shapes and curves resembling aviation's acrobatic stunts. "As I bend and form the metal I am attempting to emulate in steel memories that I have of complex flight maneuvers. Some of the time the completed piece looks exactly as I intended to look. Other times, I get a delightful surprise. You see, occasionally the new sculpture will have taken on a look and charater of it's own that far exceeds anything that I could have planned or hoped for." said Beckman, who uses the great outdoors at his waterfront home as a studio.
